Many seek peace above all. They tend to compromise or fail to state the truth of the message and word of God through Jesus Christ.

Peace is placed above all priorities. Even above God. Even above his commandments.

And it is to that mindset Jesus says. No, I come not to create peace….meaning the avoidance of conflict at all costs…even if that costs subordinates the truth.

Jesus comes and calls us to be faithful to his word and commandments. This who cannot keep his commandments to love God above all do not follow Jesus at all.

For most people who struggle with this, it is because they have not yet placed God as head of their heart and soul. They place others … usually family or partners above God. And their feelings for these people subordinates the real love of commitment and discipline and choosing God every day.

It is easy for the fiancé or spouse to hold their betrothed as the primary relationship in their life.

It is easy for a mother or father to place their new born child first above God and even above spouse. And in both cases, this is dysfunctional and broken. For God must always be first in our heart and soul or we do not really believe he gave us all…even those we love. For if we did, we would have no trouble thanking him first and honoring him for the blessings we have received.

And spouses who have taken an oath to God to love the other always and make it their primary objective to get the other person to heaven fails to understand both. They fail to see that becoming one with another is only through the love and binding of God himself.

Usually, they depend on feelings only and place that high… that feeling above everything. Which is unhealthy at best and sinful at worst.

Jesus tells us nothing and no one can come before our love of God.

Peace, true peace can be ours. But not at the sacrifice of the truth.

Gospel

Matthew 10:34-11:1

Jesus said to his Apostles:
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth.
I have come to bring not peace but the sword.
For I have come to set
a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
and one’s enemies will be those of his household.“Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me,
and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;
and whoever does not take up his cross
and follow after me is not worthy of me.
Whoever finds his life will lose it,
and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.“Whoever receives you receives me,
and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.
Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet
will receive a prophet’s reward,
and whoever receives a righteous man
because he is righteous
will receive a righteous man’s reward.
And whoever gives only a cup of cold water
to one of these little ones to drink
because he is a disciple–
amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.”When Jesus finished giving these commands to his Twelve disciples,
he went away from that place to teach and to preach in their towns.
