Gospel

John 15:18-21

Jesus said to his disciples:
“If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first.
If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own;
but because you do not belong to the world,
and I have chosen you out of the world,
the world hates you.
Remember the word I spoke to you,
‘No slave is greater than his master.’
If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.
If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
And they will do all these things to you on account of my name,
because they do not know the one who sent me.”

We cannot belong to Jesus Christ and belong to this world.

For the world rejected Jesus Christ. And it will reject us. You can be sure of this for Jesus was clear and direct and spoke of this often.

If we go through our lives and are praised by the world who are we following?

If we say nothing that conflicts with what the world preaches who are we speaking for? Whose word so we reflect?

The disciple of Christ follows and devotes himself and commits his life to one that was murdered by the powers of this world.

Jesus tells us we too will carry our cross.

So do not be discouraged if others laugh at your faith or discourages you on the path. If your choices to always choose Jesus takes you away from the life others live and expect from you, rejoice for you are following Jesus.

All on earth is temporary. We belong to the eternal God, the loving God, who promises us a home that does not fade away. In heaven with our Father we have a house prepared by Jesus Christ himself.
