Wednesday 5th Week of Easter A 2026

Gospel 

John 15:1-8

Jesus said to his disciples:
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.
He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit,
and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.
You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you.
Remain in me, as I remain in you.
Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own
unless it remains on the vine,
so neither can you unless you remain in me.
I am the vine, you are the branches.
Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit,
because without me you can do nothing.
Anyone who does not remain in me
will be thrown out like a branch and wither;
people will gather them and throw them into a fire
and they will be burned.
If you remain in me and my words remain in you,
ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.
By this is my Father glorified,
that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.”

 

Ours is not a passive relationship with God and the world.

 

Our relationship with Jesus Christ is a matter of being OF Jesus Christ. We are of the body of Jesus as mush as a branch of an apple tree is of the tree it grows forth from.

 

This is not about intellect and knowing but of covenant and communion.

All relationships are about commitments and discipline and forming a bond.

Joining together our life and will and work and play, and everyday we walk on this earth, to be with Jesus, for Jesus, and as Jesus to others. We love them as he loves us. We give to them as he gave to us. We become the light for others. We show them the way and the path.

 

No one can say they belong to Jesus unless they bear fruit. Unless they live as Jesus lived and seek God’s will in all things and actively build the kingdom of God.

 

For some this is preaching. For others it is serving. For all it is living and doing everything for him.

There is no one role or activity for there are many gifts and many stations in life. And no matter where we are or what we do each day it is done for Jesus.

 

We are to bear fruit where we are today. And he will be with us and give us his body and blood to nourish us on the way.

 

We will be the branch growing from his vine. We will be of Jesus.
