John 14:21-26

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Whoever has my commandments and observes them
is the one who loves me.
Whoever loves me will be loved by my Father,
and I will love him and reveal myself to him.”
Judas, not the Iscariot, said to him,
“Master, then what happened that you will reveal yourself to us
and not to the world?”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“Whoever loves me will keep my word,
and my Father will love him,
and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.
Whoever does not love me does not keep my words;
yet the word you hear is not mine
but that of the Father who sent me.

“I have told you this while I am with you.
The Advocate, the Holy Spirit
whom the Father will send in my name —
he will teach you everything
and remind you of all that I told you.”

The question asked why not reveal yourself to all the world. The rest of the question was… so that all will know you as we know you and see you.

It is this underlying question that Jesus answers. On the surface the question asked how Jesus and why Jesus did the things in the way he did. But it was the wrong question.

For questioning God’s methods will not result in an answer to our real questions and certainly not what we need to know.

Jesus wants us to understand the Holy Spirit will bring the understanding needed to know the Father and Jesus.

The Advocate, the third person of the trinity will be with us, if we keep Jesus commandments and are living a life of love for Jesus. He will show us everything and guide us. And he is there to guide all peoples who seek and follow his commandments.

This is how we will come to know Jesus Christ and the Father. And it is how the disciples will teach others and build the kingdom on earth. It is how we too will fulfill our role. We all have a place and mission given to us. And the Holy Spirit meets us and is with us where he finds us. Ready to correct and affirm and lead us to be the unique and beautiful person God created us to be. An important member of the kingdom of God.
