Gospel
The feast of the Dedication was taking place in Jerusalem.
It was winter.
And Jesus walked about in the temple area on the Portico of Solomon.
So the Jews gathered around him and said to him,
“How long are you going to keep us in suspense?
If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”
Jesus answered them, “I told you and you do not believe.
The works I do in my Father’s name testify to me.
But you do not believe, because you are not among my sheep.
My sheep hear my voice;
I know them, and they follow me.
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.
No one can take them out of my hand.
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all,
and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand.
The Father and I are one.”
…
There will always be those who believe and those who do not believe.
While Jesus died for all men, some, he knows will not listen and hear his good news.
Some will look but refuse to see his divinity.
But you and I will believe.
We come to see Jesus, and we accept his offer to be the center of our life.
We know nothing that comes close to his love.
We hear the good news of the love of God and we rejoice. We know even when we are still sinners that he is always there for us and will never abandon us. We are his. We study scripture, we listen with ears seeking truth. Some may listen only to determine if he supports their dysfunctional truth… there truth built on feelings and self promotion. They are not listening really at all. They ask the wrong questions for the wrong reasons.
Many people pray to God. Those who pray for evil things or that which is not good for them will hear silence.
The Christian asks Jesus to lead him. To guide him. He allows his own heart to be softened and formed into open hearts that can hear and understand, and Jesus can speak to him and guide him in life.
In the end we get to choose if we belong to Jesus or not. We can put things and ambitions of this world ahead of Jesus Christ and his truth.
Or we turn to Jesus Christ and say all I have is yours. Show me the way. And he will walk beside us all our life.
What will we choose today?
