After a life that includes making poor choices, maybe committing sins we now recognize as detrimental to not only ourselves but to others, even people we love – especially people we love – it can be difficult to truly accept that we are loved. Or even loveable.

Some of us were raised in homes or environments where we were damaged or assaulted emotionally if not physically, and we are now adults with a lack of self esteem or worth as a result. We may struggle with the concept of a loving Father who loves US as if we are his only child.

And if we cannot believe we are loved then loving others with great love is impossible.

And if we cannot conceive the concept of being loved. Of being loveable. Of being valued and cherished we are not alone.

So many people walk through life feeling unloved and unloveable. And the result is self perpetuating errors in judgment, poor choices, even causing more pain for ourself and others.

And so we hear the words of Jesus who tells us he died for US out of the love God had for each of us.

And not us, as in the whole of humanity, but for us specifically and separately, a person loved and known by Jesus Christ. It is difficult as we now stand before him knowing our sins and still embracing the words and actions of others and ourselves that convinced us we are not loveable at all.

But no matter our sin and no matter what we have done, there is still that part of us that always remains pure. That part of us that is innocent, that is virgin and that is loved. That child, God first imagined and through conception brought into this world to love and be loved. That child is still apart of us deep down in our soul and waiting to show us how to be children of God and live the life we were born for and baptized into.

For God loves us not for our actions but for who we are and what we are as sons and daughters of his.

And so when we can reach down within ourselves and find that place unstained, that innocence, it is that which we need to exploit, to grow and to rule our lives so that we can make our life new again in Jesus Christ.

And so all of us should embrace this child within ourself that is innocence, untouched and undefiled by our old sins. We were all washed clean by the blood of Jesus Christ which enables us to make our life new again. He promised this to us all. Every one of us.

Find your innocence and child that lives deep inside and allow Jesus to lead you to take over your day and life.

It is as simple as drawing from that child within, who loves and is loved, and allowing them to be guided by the Holy Spirit. Past our failings, past our doubts, and past the pain that still lingers. Past all of it to the truth of Christ.

The truth of Jesus Christ is that you are truly loved and valued and you can respond to that love from this day forward by living as a true son and daughter of God.

It is our inheritance, it is who we are. It is only when we try to be someone else that we lose our way. So many go through life pretending to be a character or example put forth by Hollywood, family or society. A false persona. And they never connect to their truth, their inner innocence and child of God.

Find that child of God inside you that still loves and knows it can be loved and let them guide the rest of your life.

If this is difficult, if your child is buried so deep you can no longer see them, then live day by day the way an innocent would live. Stop the perpetual cycle of sin and do what you know is right and follow truth.

Make choices that are for life, for good and for others. This is key.

You will get it wrong some of the time until you can tune into the truth better. Keep going. Everything worth anything in life including great love requires discipline and commitment. But you will be living each day for you. Investing in you. Accumulating experience, virtue and grace to be the best you can be. String enough days together doing the right things and you will start to see your child, your core, your soul emerge and you only need to follow them to a future as a beloved child of God.

And you will have access to and live great love. With God and with others who you will connect with in a new and refreshing way. Because you will be living as yourself, comfortable and happy with your actions and your life. You will still have challenges, losses, hurt and even illness and struggle. That is life. But a life set on the stage of truth knowing you have taken on the role of yourself, a child of a God.
