Gospel

Mark 4:21-25

Jesus said to his disciples,
“Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket
or under a bed,
and not to be placed on a lampstand?
For there is nothing hidden except to be made visible;
nothing is secret except to come to light.
Anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear.”
He also told them, “Take care what you hear.
The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you,
and still more will be given to you.
To the one who has, more will be given;
from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”

We begin our journey as Christians following his way not from understanding or wisdom but from obedience. We follow and begin to mold our focus and life to conform to the teachings of Christ.

 Not always knowing or understanding the why. Only that we were told this is the path to Jesus Christ and to true joy and peace and for many of us to cure the stress and doubts and lack of meaning in our life. As children of God, baptized in the Holy Trinity we know there is a void in our heart and we are not yet living as we should.

As we progress and fail and progress some more, if we are blessed and disciplined we make progress in understanding. We can move deeper and the truth of our life and creation is slowly revealed to us… as we can accept it. The Holy Spirit shines light on our failings but also on our value as children of God. And we grow and learn. More and more receiving the light of Christ and understanding more.

As the Psalm says we see he has become our light and lamp to show us the way to draw deeper into the mysteries and truth of Jesus Christ.

Today’s Gospel speaks to the us who have received the light of Christ in our life and we are asked, what am I doing about it?

Have I in turn shown others that light?

Our life should be focused on Jesus Christ. Nothing else matters.  Nothing else will do. We know that.

Have we told others what it means to us? How has Jesus helped us? Have we trusted in him more and have less anxiety? If so, did we tell others about the remedy of Jesus Christ?

Have we sought the guidance of Jesus and the comfort of our Holy Mother Mary in heaven? A mother he gave to us while he as dying on the cross. That’s how important he knew Mary would be for all of us. Have we felt that comfort of a loving mother in heaven? Have we shared with others the blessing of saying the rosary each day.

Jesus tells us we cannot just believe and not share with others. For the true disciple will be compelled out of joy and love to tell others.

We can be a light for others. If we are not there yet, then we need to start the next phase of our spiritual growth by doing what we did in the beginning. Pray more. Study scripture daily. We may not understand it all or find the joy and peace of it all yet but now is the time to be obedient and disciplined.

 So we can move to the next stage in our life as lights of Christ.

 So we can be a lamp for others to know the way too. That’s our calling.
