Being a disciple of Jesus Christ is not a sad affair. It fills us with joy that we want to share. The life of a Christian is the life of a child of God who has Jesus Christ beside them and has the Holy Spirit resting in their heart.

The cross is always part of our life, and we should fast to remind us of Christ’s sacrifice for us. We too should sacrifice things that do not serve us as seekers of truth. For example, Fridays for Catholic should be meatless unless another form of penance is offered each week.

But even in our fast or penance we are joyful for we know we are growing closer to Jesus and following the proper way for a child of God to live.

Let us ask ourselves what is my general attitude each day? Am I waking around glum and somber? How could a follower of Jesus do that?

For Christ is with us and we trust in his path. We have found the truth and the way of living as Jesus taught us.  A way that sets our life on the right path where true joy and peace and hope can be found.

So many people struggle through life, chasing feelings and gods of this world like possessions and wealth and happiness built on doing whatever comes to mind at the time.

But that is not being free. Freedom is knowing who we are and more importantly whose we are… and understanding that if we follow the love and commandments of Jesus Christ and align our life to his way, our path is true.

Emptiness and endless yearning for more things, more power, more attention or something new is gone.

For Christ is now with us and shows us how to live the life we were created to live. We are all called to live this blessed life with God. While we will always have struggles, we do not lose our joy and peace when he is with us.

Like the disciples, we too have the bridegroom, Jesus Christ with us. And it fills our hearts with joy that we will want to share. Let’s make sure our joy is bride today. So that others may also be drawn to the true life and the truth of living as a child of God.
