How often do we dismiss the calling of God in our life?

We were all called in baptism to be children of God.

To prepare a place for the Spirit in our hearts.

To live as a child of God with our eye on the eternal life promised to those who follow the commandments of Jesus Christ.

To love God more than all else. To love others as we love ourselves.

To hear the good news that God so loved the world he gave his son for the redemption of our souls. That Jesus became man and lived among us, suffered and died for us. So that we might have a way back to the Father. So that we can fulfill our calling and cultivate a life of loving as we were loved and being a light, being Christ for others.

But we can be like Zechariah and build our own list of why we can’t possibly put God first in our life.

We are too busy. We spend all our time on sports, work, hobbies, ambition and profit.

We can’t possibly love others without considering their virtues. Even as we know we were loved as sinners ourselves.

We can’t possible give our mind and focus and heart to things of eternal life when this life requires our attention and devotion.

What’s stopping us from growing in faith and loving as we were told we must.

I know there are so many voices in our world and only so much mindshare and only so much time. But if we remember the priorities set for us in baptism and strive every day to listen to Gods voice over others, we can make progress.

Then we will find we always had time for prayer and God. We also find that living the life we were born for puts everything that happens in proper perspective. We can find peace and joy and love here and now.

Let nothing stop you from living the life you were called to by God.
