Our Lady of Guadalupe was named our patron saint of the Americas in 1945. She is
our mother and as our patron saint we should always pray to her for our nation and
all peoples in America. For they are all our brothers and sisters under Our Lady of
Guadalupe.
Our Gospel reading is the annunciation with the option of reading the Visitation to
Elizabeth instead.
Both readings tell us so much about Mary and who she was to the world. The
Mother of God. Who she was to others, as Elizabeth professes her holiness and John
leaps in the womb, as Mary draws near with Jesus.
Today, we need to take a moment and meditate on what she means for us.
Mary, was given to us as our own mother by Jesus when he was dying on the cross.
Of all the things he could have said in the few last words during the terrible time of
pain and anguish and suffering, he tells us Mary is our mother.
If we don’t already include Mary in our daily prayers and regular petitions for her
prayers, we are neglecting to engage with the one person who Jesus thought best to
help us.
Why would anyone not want the Mother of Jesus to be actively involved in helping
us in our relationship with Jesus Christ.
This is a good day to remember she is given as our mother to help us as only a loving
mother can. And that we can go to her as we would a mom to ask for her help. She is
not God. She points to her son and desires that our world turn back to him. She
wants the Americas to worship her son more. And she wants all her children, even
you and me, to let her help by talking to her son for us. We should always say yes to
her offer to help us.
The rosary should be a daily prayer for it transforms hearts. Meditating on the
sacred moments in the life of Jesus opens our hearts. The rosary and developing a
relationship with Mary changes everything for the follower of Christ. It is an
amazing prayer that lifts us up and closer to Jesus Christ.
Call your mom in heaven today and let her know how you are doing. Then listen to
her for she wants the best for us.
