When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth.
He was assuring them that God does hear their prayers and we should be persistent in our prayers. Not because God did not know our needs or wants, for he knows every thought we have, he sees us each moment. He knows what we ourselves are afraid to admit. For we can be blind to our truth if we are caught up in the world around us. But because he wants a relationship with us.
Most people go through life spending more time heads down facing a bit of electronics than they do with their heads down and hands together in prayer.
It is as if we worship the internet and influencers and tik tok and the varied and ever-changing myriad number of distractions the technology companies have presented to us.
In fact, when we hear in the Gospel you cannot serve both God and mammon, you can include you cannot serve both God and social media.
Our children for the most part are lost in it too. Their childhood being robbed from them by concepts and images and violence that no child 20 years ago would see. And society is okay with the innocence of children being taken.
And into this crazy world of mobs of people going through their day focused on nothing of consequence. Our lives are like a train speeding down toward the end. And nothing we are focused on now will matter in the end. We may be standing still staring at the latest joke or drama or demon led interest we have no need for… but we are racing on the train of our life and it will be at the last station before we know it.
So many distractions stop good people from developing a relationship with God. So many have prioritized the current trend or comfortable offering that a world without God at the center has to offer.
Living together is the norm now.
Sex without marriage is expected and encouraged.
Less time at worship and more time in front of the TV, boating, golfing, cheering on millionaires in team clothing instead of building a good and faith-filled life.
The train of our life is moving faster than we know. We will look up one day and Jesus will be standing there and asking us “who are you” for he will not know us.
Faith and our relationship with the one we meet at the end of the line should be our highest priority for ourselves, our family and everyone around us.
Each day we are either growing closer to God in faith, or we are moving away from him.
Each day we just ask ourselves how much did I spend with God today in prayer or adoration? How much of my day and work did I do for Jesus Christ?
Every choice we make, every step we take…is either toward God or away from him.
There are no neutral choices in life. There are no actions that don’t matter.
We all have a part to play in this life …while the train is still accelerating toward the end. But we are distracted by other things and don’t even know the train is moving.
How is our faith doing today. Do others know our faith? Did we go to Mass every Sunday. Missing Mass is a mortal sin for us. Because we choose something else during that time beside God. We are saying no to God.
We are saying no to the one who was crucified for our sin. Jesus didn’t die for just anyone or everyone, he died for you and me personally. His pain and death were a direct result of our sinning and need to keep sinning.
We were created for a mission to be part of the family of God. To share in communion and be one with God and others. We were made for love and the Kingdom.
If we are not showing up what will happen in the end? Do we think we can skate by and do the minimum or as little as possible and think when we face Jesus Christ it will be enough somehow???
What happens to our jobs if we just phone them in? What happens to our homes if we never do more than the minimal amount of cleaning! What happens to our relationships of all we do is the bare minimum?
And if we do the bare minimum for our faith, we will see the same result. We will be left out in the cold and Jesus will tell us. I don’t know you.
Today we can fix this. Today we can begin by doing more than we did yesterday. We can put down our phones and pray more. We can go to adoration. We can find a mass today. We must start and we must start and change our relationship today. For it may be too late tomorrow.
Pray to God. Pray often. Keep praying and pray more if you are struggling. The train of our life could stop at the last station any minute now and we will be left in a place we don’t want to be.
