Our reading from Habukak stresses that we are to be patient in difficult times. We are to keep the faith for our God has not forgotten us.
Our responsorial, when we hear the voice of the lord harden not your heart, also applies to the one who is waiting and listening to God but is still in that penultimate point where most of the waiting is done but there is still some moments to ensure or steps to take.
We are called not to lose heart or harden our heart toward God. We are called to have faith and allow the spirit to own our hearts they will move toward humility and perseverance rather than hardness and bitterness.
Lastly the Gospel which sounds odd to our ears and sounds difficult to modern sensibilities also stresses that much is expected of us and we know our duties but they are not finished yet. There is still more responsibilities and waiting to finish.
Again. The hard work is done but the final chapter is still due. It requires faith, and the good news is God can work with our faith no matter how small. How tenuous or fragile, it is enough for him to move mountains and make a difference. This is the same with our tithing – which may not be much if we have only little. But it can do great things for it doesn’t matter what the amount is… what matters is how it is given. A coin given out of faith is worth a hundred times more than a 100 given out of excess.
Faith is all they had in Habukuk as they waited.
You and I are still waiting too. As we await his help. As we await a visible sign of his presence at times. As we await struggles to pass.
Hopefully our life has been focused on Jesus Christ and we have followed his commands in our waiting. But our obedience and devotion does not have an end or time when we stop our prayers and devotion to God. So we hold on to our faith and like the disciples ask, Lord, please increase our faith. And Jesus isn’t rebuking the disciples or us but explaining how even a small amount of faith is worth more than we realize.
When we turn to Jesus Christ in times of trouble or suffering. It is our faith and openness of heart that will allow us to grow more in faith and grow closer to God.
God works and enables us to be fruitful and grow our faith in good times and in bad. He is always working with us and for us.
Let’s remember that he is always with us. We need to Give God our faith, no matter how small or weak. Give him what faith we have and give him our struggles. He can work with that to help us move forward and grow.
