Saint Therese of the Child Jesus last words wear, my God I love you. Her life and her family life. We’re not easy. Her mother died when she was young, and she was left with her sister who would join the continent when she was only nine years old. At 15 she would joined the convent herself. Her later years were Mark marked by continued illness and failing health.
Butt Saint Therese did not let her hardships or illness, distracte distract her. But instead saw them as part of her journey.
Today Jesus in the gospel talks to us and to his disciples about the hardships they would have to undertake if they were follow him, there will be hardships. There will for me mean, they will have no home of their own. It would mean that they would have to leave all behind to take on the discipleship and proclaim the kingdom. Not all of us are called to religious life like Saint Therese. Not all of us will be called to the priesthood. But all of us will have to put Christ first in our life put Christ first in our life.
Neither memories of the past or where is in the future should prevent us from focusing our life on Jesus today. Saint Therese is a model to show us that no matter what illness hardship or struggle we have in this life we must take them on as part of our journey, and do not be distracted.
This doesn’t make our struggles less real or less painful. This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to change our struggles or situation. But our struggles or illness cannot define us. For we are defined as children of God and disciples of Jesus Christ.
