Today we remember the cross. We remember also why Jesus died on the cross and why he came here. It was not out of judgement but out of love for us. For our Father in heaven so loved us he sent his only son to die for us, for you and me, so that we might have life.
Our response is to look upon the crucifix knowing how much we are loved and to return that love. To believe in his Word and truth and hold on to hope and faith that we are so loved we have only to love him back to find eternal life.
And if we love him we will place him first in our life and everything else follows after him. Then we begin to live a well ordered life and are on our way to the Father.
He placed nothing ahead of his love for us but gave all.
We are called to do the same.
Does our life, our day, our nights and our journey in this world reflect that love?
Today the cross reminds us of his sacrifice and love for us and we are called to response with love also.
In the end, it reflects who he is to us. What we really believe and consequently what we really love.
Gospel
Jesus said to Nicodemus:
“No one has gone up to heaven
except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.
And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert,
so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world might be saved through him.
