Matthew 6:19-23

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal.
But store up treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

“The lamp of the body is the eye.
If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light;
but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness.
And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.”

This reading is in the middle of a series of teachings. The verses following this one sums up the message that we can only serve one master. Either God or things of this world like wealth and possessions.

We choose who leads us and whose way we take each day… as we decide to say yes to God throughout our day.

It is a continuing process and choice. When we sin, we choose poorly and seek forgiveness, and we are forgiven and we start again. Knowing we are weak and will struggle, and accepting our weakness, while we still continue to do his will in all things.

So, we all should set the stage for success. Avoid anything that darkens the love in our heart. The truth of Jesus Christ.

It is easy to watch movies or clips about things that we don’t think are bad or wrong but really are not good for us.

We must always ask if this image or that action we are watching feeds our spirit ….or do they distract us or worse…. present what we should not dwell on… we can easily allow darkness into our soul.  This include pornography, but also indecent pictures or provocative presentations. Violence is never something we should choose to watch.

Streaming that presents immoral practices or pursuits not worthy of children of God we just reject.

What images are we allowing in our soul? What are we feeding our mind with as we scroll through streaming videos.

Many things in this life that the world says is good are not good at all. Many influencers and distractions strive for our attention and to pull us away from spending time in prayer and meditation.

We choose what to put before our eyes and what images and ideas to fill our minds and hearts with. We must set ourselves up to make good choices and always our God first in our life.

We can only serve on master. We must choose.
