Gospel

John 16:29-33

The disciples said to Jesus,
“Now you are talking plainly, and not in any figure of speech.
Now we realize that you know everything
and that you do not need to have anyone question you.
Because of this we believe that you came from God.”
Jesus answered them, “Do you believe now?
Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived
when each of you will be scattered to his own home
and you will leave me alone.
But I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
I have told you this so that you might have peace in me.
In the world you will have trouble,
but take courage, I have conquered the world.”

Jesus does not take away trouble for the disciples and neither does he do so for us. Many will be persecuted by the world and find themselves in conflict with those around them. This is not only true for the disciples then but for us now. If we don’t feel like strangers in a strange land, we might not be following his will and living his way as much as we thought.

Following Jesus way does not make this life easier but it does allow us to live and overcome obstacles with his joy and his peace in our hearts. For we know he has overcome the world, and our destiny is certain if we stay the course and keep our eyes on him.

Today let’s let nothing distract us from putting God’s will first in our actions and our love for others ahead of our own needs today.

Take courage for he has truly overcome the world.
