Gospel

John 16:12-15

Jesus said to his disciples:
“I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.
But when he comes, the Spirit of truth,
he will guide you to all truth.
He will not speak on his own,
but he will speak what he hears,
and will declare to you the things that are coming.
He will glorify me,
because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.
Everything that the Father has is mine;
for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine
and declare it to you.”

The disciples walked with Jesus Christ, fully man and fully God.

You and I walk with the Advocate, the Holy Spirit. We all walk with God who is three persons but one God.

Jesus was clear when he told his disciples he had to leave so that the Holy Spirit could come and be with them and us. He told them they would do miraculous things, even greater than what he did himself.

We might think miracles are no longer present but that’s not true. Miracles continue to occur. A quick search easily shows that.

But the greatest miracle that was given was in the Eucharist. For Jesus gave his Church the ability to change common wine and bread into the body and blood of Jesus Christ. The institution of the Eucharist is the greatest gift to us and will never be outdone. For it is through his body and blood we find unity with God himself. We find eternal life.

What miracle is greater than when the Priest celebrates the Liturgy of the Eucharist and Jesus true man and true God is present before us.

And offers himself for us so that we may find eternal life with him in heaven.

We take this for granted. We mumble our amens and think about other things. …even as we are being offered God!

His week let’s return to the Mass and to the Eucharistic celebration and remember what we are doing. Remember who we are receiving.

At Mass, Jesus is with us. There is nothing that should fill our minds and hearts than him. It is the reason for the mass.

Let us approach this miracle of miracles in the right disposition. With humility, in a state of grace from having regularly gone to confession and with hearts and minds that say Amen! Yes I believe!

And thank God he has once again come into our lives in the flesh. And then ask the Holy Spirit to guide us as we begin our week refreshed by the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
