John 13:16-20

When Jesus had washed the disciples’ feet, he said to them:
“Amen, amen, I say to you, no slave is greater than his master
nor any messenger greater than the one who sent him.
If you understand this, blessed are you if you do it.
I am not speaking of all of you.
I know those whom I have chosen.
But so that the Scripture might be fulfilled,
The one who ate my food has raised his heel against me.
From now on I am telling you before it happens,
so that when it happens you may believe that I AM.
Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send
receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”

He loved them all. Even the one who would betray him.

Jesus washed the feet of the disciples. Including Judas.

And he told them and us, that we too should serve those in our life. No matter how lowly we may think of them we serve all, even those who do not believe. Even them more so.

For he was setting an example for us and showing us how to be Christ for all.

Jesus came and served and died for all sinners, even you and me.

He accepted the whip on his back for your sins and my sins.

He accepted nails in his body for your refusal to always say yes to him and my refusal.

He even washed the feet of one who would be part of his death.

Such in the message of Jesus Christ.

A message that makes no sense in this world. It is pure folly and counter to all the world of men believe in.

And that is the point. We are to serve everyone God sends into our lives. Without hesitation. Without doubt. Without repayment.

God sent Jesus into the world to serve and give all a way back home to our Father in heaven.

Jesus sent you and me to serve others in this world not because anyone deserves mercy or the love of God but because we are loved and we are grateful for his love and the blessings we have been given.

Even as we are sinners and even as it was our sins that he died for, even though we live in the future, God is timeless and all is known and realized.

Find someone to serve today. Maybe it is an act of kindness, friendship, or encouragement.

In the friendship of the Lord, we are to spread that relationship to others. Even those who do not yet believe.
