Gospel

John 6:30-35

The crowd said to Jesus:
“What sign can you do, that we may see and believe in you?
What can you do?
Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, as it is written:

    He gave them bread from heaven to eat.”

So Jesus said to them,
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven;
my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven
and gives life to the world.”

So they said to Jesus,
“Sir, give us this bread always.”
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life;
whoever comes to me will never hunger,
and whoever believes in me will never thirst.”

Jesus is standing right there before them but they do not see. They demand Jesus to present himself on their terms before they will believe.

But a relationship with God requires a humble spirit and an open heart.

The relationship between the created man and the divine creator requires nothing less than understanding that relationship first, and then understanding his great love for us.

Today we still require God to present himself to us on our terms.

We live full of anxiety and doubt and fear and tell God he needs to do what we want him to do or we won’t believe. The people in our Gospel do the same.

We are called this Easter to present ourselves to God with humility and offer him ourselves to shape and form according to his will for us which is the best life we can live.

We have to stop putting barriers to God, stop holding on to anything but Jesus Christ.

Many times we have built a life that is opposed to Jesus Christ and his teachings. We place activities ahead of worship. We say yes to the wrong relationships when we know what is God’s will.

We say yes to actions and words that tear down instead of build others up.

As long as we tell God we will believe only if he gives us the right signs or answers to our prayers we will find silence.

 Faith must be built on surrender.  We must accept that following the will of God regardless of the implication to our lifestyle or choices is always the right choice.

What are we holding on to today that we need to let go of so we can grown closer to God and he can help us live our best life. The life we were created to live as children of God.
