Gospel
After making the crossing to the other side of the sea,
Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret
and tied up there.
As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him.
They scurried about the surrounding country
and began to bring in the sick on mats
to wherever they heard he was.
Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered,
they laid the sick in the marketplaces
and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak;
and as many as touched it were healed.
The healing was nonstop. The people found the one who healed everyone who came to him. Every ailment. Every possessed soul. Everyone who suffered found relief. Absolute healing for all.
He was and is the real deal.
And so they ran to tell others. They sought anyone and everyone to tell them and bring them to Jesus. Such was their belief and conviction that this one had power to bring healing and wholeness to everyone.
Miracles glorify God. They show others who to have hope in. They point to God.
Jesus still seeks all people to come to him. He still heals the soul and makes those whole who were broken. Since we are all sinners who are broken people, we all need healing. We all need forgiveness. When we fail to love as we were commanded, we also need to come to him for penance and reconciliation. To be absolved and healed and returned to his full graces
Jesus came to bring us home. To heal our wounds that stop us from returning home. To bring hope and joy and wholeness to all.
Like those in the countryside who hear his call to come to him, we too can choose not to come. To not be healed and to not be made whole again.
Today what are we holding on to so tightly that prevents us from being healed by Jesus?
What is stopping us from telling everyone we know of the wonderful healing and love that is only found in Jesus Christ. The real deal. The truth. The light. The one who came to bring us home.
