Our Old Testament reading brings us the story of David defeating the Phillistine. Saul, his king did not believe he would succeed. His opposition saw his stature and youth and gave no credence to David’s words of faith in God.

How hard it is to follow the will of God when the odds seem against us.

When all around us doubt we will be successful. Yet, what else could we do but follow what we know is the will of God.  It is a test of our faith to persevere.

You and I also are tested. Maybe it isn’t in combat like David. Maybe it’s just trusting the Lord will be beside us and help us when things don’t look like what we had planned. Maybe, it is a job that didn’t come through, or our attempts at even good things like charity or showing love for others seems to be rejected. Or of no consequence in the end. Maybe, it is a relationship that fails us.  But in all things, we must do the will of God, everyday seek his will, use the sacraments regularly to help us and pray always.

We know from scripture, God does hear us and when we pray, he can and has changed the course of things. We see that in the story of Nineveh who prayed and fasted and God changed what he had planned.

How much more will he help us when we are following his way, staying in a state of grace and relationship with Jesus?

Jesus had no boundaries or even laws of physics for that matter that will stop him from coming to our aid.

But in order to receive special blessings we must change and repent and take a hard look at our life and who we really worship.

Many people today try to shape Gods words to fit what they want instead of the truth that Gods words have. They worship themselves for they put what they want above God’s will. When we align our will with his will, we will see his mercy and blessings abound and we can trust he will always be with us. When our life and actions align with the commandments of Jesus, we will find communion with him and blessings abound.

Trust in Jesus today.
